Dear Interweave Knits,

Please do not turn into Knitter's.

Thanks much,
michelle

There isn't a thing there that I'd knit, either.

Hah! You're too late! They already have!

(sigh) And I had such high hopes for the magazine - darn!

I was so looking forward to the next issue, but I'm so disappointed. I WON'T be buying this one!

Come on! Not even the Gossamer Stars scarf? I feel so out of it! I've never read Knitter's and I've only been reading IK for 2 years. What kind of summer knits are ya'll looking for? You should post pix of what is a "IK pattern" vs. a "Knitter's Pattern." Only because I want to be in the know!

THAT'S what's wrong with the IK- I couldn't put my finger on it. Thanks for clearing it up!!!

oldround, it hasn't completed the transformation. The pieces in the 'In Green Lace' section are lovely. The 'Après Surf Hoodie' is a winner. However, the 'Sand & Sea' and 'Kaleidoscope' sections are worrisome, and there is at least one total clunker that I won't mention by name. Really though, if you've seen the design on the cover of the latest issue of Knitter's, you know that they just keep raising the bar of hidiousness they are willing to put out.

Whew, I am so glad I didn't get my mom a subscription for her birthday. I will admit that I liked 2 of the items (in the green lace section of course). I am not familier with the Knitter's magazine but now I'll have to look for it, if only to look at the trainwreck. It's a little like the florescent lime green prom dress I saw yesterday.

OMG I thought I was the only person to think the same thing....there were so many raves about the issue on ravelry.

Posted by: Michele at Apr 27, 2008 5:58:51 AM

Agreed. None too happy with this issue. And I've had such high hopes with Eunny Jang taking the helm. I wouldn't make ANY of those patterns... how sad is that?

Funny you say that - I actually like it even though I am past 40 !! I thought these were updated classics.. Frankly I love very classic style - i.e.: lace and all - but if I find myself spending all that time to look like anything else on the shelves.. at least these incorporate some nice technics and contemporary colours.. even though I can pass on some.

I'm going to suspend judging this issue too much, because I generally hate Summer issues of any knitting magazines.

But yeah, that's some pretty eye-searing colorwork. Even if I LIKED doing colorwork, I wouldn't do those...

Seriously, I'm more and more thinking of launching a magazine called "UnHip Knits" or somesuch and featuring the intricate, difficult, classic pieces that many of the dumbed-down knitting magazines don't seem to want to touch any more. I'm sure there'd be a market.

They can't be perfect every issues. I did like the Wallace Cardigan though. Maybe they'll sell just the pdf so I don't have to get the whole magazine.

Agreed, though I think the Gossamer Stars scarf is utterly lovely. But that's just how Knitter's works, too... it's all horrifying designs, with maybe one unexpectedly fabulous thing in it (sock pattern? scarf?) that you don't find out about until the issue in question is long gone.
