untitled post #12

Mantis

I found this little entity living in the lavender bush out front when I was pruning last week.

Yard work is satisfying of you know what you are doing. If you are clueless like I am, it all seems overwhelming.

I'm finding home-ownership, in general, overwhelming. I am enveloped in dread. I am over-reacting to everything. I guess even at my age I'm not prepared to be a responsible adult.

I'm taking Molly to the vet this morning. She may need an operation. Nothing immediately threatening, but probably something that will need to be taken care of. She's old; she can't last forever. Dread, dread, dread.

I know I'll be OK, but I just wish I at least knew how to take care of my yard.

[knitting content should return soon. The Oregon Flock and Fiber Festival is this weekend].

Sweet picture of Molly-- I'm wishing her well at the vet's.

Gardening can be enjoyable once you learn what you're doing. I'm afraid you'll have to do some research to get yourself started though, unless you can get somebody with experience to spend some time in the yard with you. Bon courage!

Good thoughts going out for Molly.

One thing about gardening - don't stress too much. If you screw it up, it grows back. (Ask me how I learned that). You could perhaps try calling the local Ag Extension office (if you have one); the people who work at those seem to be very happy to give advice and they often have free pamphlets and stuff with information in them.

In general, I love home ownership...the last apartment I lived in, the manager complained I had "too many books" and it was a "fire hazard" (yeah, those spontaneously-combusting books - eye-roll) and wanted me to rent one of the rental units her business JUST HAPPENED to offer to store some of them in.

In my house, that I OWN, no one can tell me I have too many books. And no one can tell me that they must come in monthly to spray for bugs that I don't have because I keep my place clean. (Stuff like the water-heater woes are a minor blip on a generally-happy landscape.)

Home ownership isn't easy, just roll with it. That's my take on the up/down rollercoaster ride.

PS. Molly get well soon, don't freak out your mom to much.

I'm thinking of Molly today. I hope her surgery goes well.

Poor Molly! I hope she comes through with flying colors.

And I SO hear you on the responsible-adult thing. Sigh...

Good thoughts to you and Molly.

The rule of home ownership is that just when you think you know what's going on, you find out you don't. That, and all the appliances invariably need replacing at the same time. That's the other rule.
Willie & Lucy say good luck to Molly.

Always remember-yardwork is a work in progress. It never ends, but it always changes. You really cannot do to much damage, it will all grow back, or you can replace it. It is a real learn by doing thing. I would love to help, but alas, as you know I live too far away.
I hope Molly is ok.

I'm so sorry about the surgery for Molly, but I'm glad it turned out well.
What Marsha said. I used to get really worked up over the plants but lately I've been feeling like there's not much I can do to really destroy anything, and if it does, then we figure something else out. That said, I never feel like I know what I'm doing on pruning. I just take a deep breath and hope for the best. I have to cut the damn camellias back but there's about a billion spiders all over them so I've been putting it off.

If you'd like help with the roses, drop me a line.

Very nice work you do. I enjoyed browsing your blog. I really hope Molly will be fine. She's gorgeous.
