let's try that again

Cyo_2

See this sleeve? Take a good look, because it's already gone. I ripped it out because I wasn't happy with the shape--way too poofy.

I'm going to try again, this time not increasing as many stitches after the ribbing and increasing more gradually under the arm. I hope this doesn't cause me to run out of yarn. Nothing is ever simple, is it?

No time to write any more tonight. I leave tomorrow for a trip to a conference in New Orleans. I haven't decided yet whether or not I'm going to take any knitting with me. If I do, it will probably be socks.

If you knit a more tapered sleeve, it should take less yarn than this poufy one.

How it must have broken your heart! I've had to do that in the past, but only to a 3 color Icelandic sweater sleeve, nothing as complicated as what you've shown.

It was, and will be absolutely beautiful!

Pretty pattern. And wouldn't making the sleeve narrower use LESS yarn?

I just made your Silk Garden hat pattern this weekend using my own handspun yarn. It came out great. Everyone loves it. Thanks for sharing your pattern!

With the P.Wool sweaters, I've learned to do the sleeve increases more gradually, too. For my arm length (I forget what that was, but I'm just shy of 5'8" tall), increasing every six rows took the shaping all the way to the underarm, and looked great.

If you have their book, look at the sweaters in the front. Some of them have poufy sleeves, and others have smoothly tapered sleeves.

I can't believe you RIPPED that! Oh, it's so pretty. Hope you're having fun in N'orleans...

I also hate to knit sleeves. I find that they often get too wide, too fast. I usually try to knit two together, but not when there are so many color yarns being used.
Good luck with the reknitting- what a nuisance!

Thanks for posting about the Color Your Own sweater. I just started mine, and I'm also about 5'9", so increasing every 6 rows on the sleeves should work for me as well. Yay!
I just started the color work last night, and it's engrossing. I had a hard time putting it down to go to bed.
