Two steps forward, one step back
I think I have solved the neck problem on CPS; however, I am now fighting the battle of the buttonholes.
I put off posting all weekend with the hope that I might even have a finished project to show by the end of the end yesterday, but that was not to be. This morning before I left for work, I removed the button band that I spent most of yesterday knitting and most of last night sewing on.
[Pooh!]
Oh well, here's the good news:
First, I crocheted across the back of the neck to stabilize it.

Second, I tightened the stitches around the gaps.

Third, I knit the collar about eight rows longer than specified.

I can now transfer my wrath from the collar to the button bands. [rotten button bands].
Somebody stop me!
An effective method for putting the brakes on runaway yarn acquisition? Expensive and necessary repairs to the brakes on the car.
ARGH!!!
Speaking of yarn acquisition...
There was a slip from my mail carrier waiting for me when I got home today. I'll have to go to the post office to pick up my yarn for the Everyday Cardigan. I won't be able to make it to the post office until Saturday.
[ACK!]
I think I'm going to console myself with a relaxing night of working on Rain Forest.

When I have to part with money for some unpleasant fact of life, it makes me so resentful that I must go out and treat myself to something wonderful to make up for it. If I had to fix my brakes, I'm afraid I'd come home with an outrageous amount of stash. Good thing my car is still in warranty. CPS is looking great.

Looks beautiful. Did you ever share which button you selected? I will have to remember that crochet trick for stabilizing the neck.

I love the way the collar turned out. That is a neat trick, using crochet to stabalize the neck. I am so glad you share these little secrets!

Wow, the collar looks really great! I love the colors of your sweater. It's beautiful.
May you soon be able to get your PF.

Wow, CPS collar is beautiful! I would recommend Montse Stanley's book "Knitter's Handbook". She provides a thorough, albeit opinionated, collection of techniques. Her buttonhole/band section will require your advanced degree...:)

The collar looks stunning. Are you fighting the buttonholes in a seed stitch band? I did that a few years ago and never did succeed in making the buttonholes look ok.
I now wish I had made the band w/o buttonholes and just sewn the buttons through both bands since I never wear my jacket unbuttoned (same solution if you aren't planning on ever wearing your garment buttoned. You don't need buttonholes then either (only one in 15 or so will notice that they are missing and besides, it's the buttons we admire right? Not the buttonholes)

Great job correcting the looseness in the picked up stitches. I'm so glad you didn't rip and redo. It looks perfect now, as does the rest of the collar. Glad that you're happy with it now!
