graft closed

work eight more decrease rows

24 stitches remain

repeat decrease row and non-decrease row five more times

k16, k2tog , p2, k1, ssk, p1, (k2, p2) 7 times, k2, p1, k2tog, p2, ssk, k18

knit in pattern until 1-3/4" from the end

put waiting stitches back on the needles

work short-row heel on 36 stitches

use 17 stitches from needle 1 and 19 from needle 4

decrease down to 18 stitches

and increase back up again, of course

you can try and follow my tortuous directions for a short-row heel, changing the numbers as needed. Also, Alison has a short-row tutorial which has lots of pictures and I think is the same as the heel I normally use.

put 40 stitches from needles 2 and 3 on a piece of waste yarn

knit 18, p2, (k2, p2) 10 times, knit 20

Repeat for about an inch

k2, p2 all the way around

continue to desired length

join

without twisting

cast on 80 stitches

Use a stretchy cast on like the German Twisted

Distribute on four needles (20 stitches per)

five US1 double-point needles

sock yarn
