Yay!!!! FABULOUS, FIT, FREE and FINANCIALLY FINE at forty!! Celebrate it!! And you're not a spinster yet--first you gotta get that wheel! and/or give up totally on guys : )
As for motherless child--that's the loss that does stay with you. After all these years I still feel that.

I'm really sorry about the loss of your mom so close to your birthday. In my case, we had a few months before we had to tackle the first event my mom normally would have been a part of. The first year is full of firsts like this. I hope you find your way through with the comfort of family and friends, and happy memories of the good times.
May your cup be filled again.

It only gets better as you age. I have found that I have improved with each decade and so has my life.
I know you miss your mother and I'm sorry about her death. Just take the time to grieve.

Spinster means a spinning wheel in my world! Homeownership is way cool. Motherless child - same boat for sometime for me. Physically she's not there but sometimes I feel her presence.

Hey I was a student at Madison in '92 (I'm getting pretty darn close to forty myself)--the nitty gritty--you're triggering all kinds of memories for me. I miss that town everyday. Have a happy one.
