if it were a man, I'd marry it!*

Instead of attending the Black Sheep Gathering last weekend, I went out and bought a washer and dryer. This was a difficult purchase--more fraught than the decision to buy the entire house.
When it came to buying a washing machine, I wanted to give the good ole top-loaders an even break. I looked at them, I considered them, but they were no match for the efficient, water-sipping Consumer Reports darlings. Tax credits, rebates, and sale prices bring the low- to mid-range front-loaders almost down to the top-loading models with desirable features like multiple water levels and spin speeds. And when you factor in the savings over the life of the washer, well... [Please excuse the rationalization. It allows me to sleep at night].
OK, I admit it. I chose my washer and dryer not so much for their admirable work ethic and great personalities. I did it for their looks. As hard as I tried, I could not resist the allure of the sex-ay, sex-ay front-loading washing machines and their equally attractive drying counterparts. This pair is going to be sitting essentially right out in the kitchen, not lurking in a garage or basement. I'm going to have to look at them every day for what I hope is many, many years to come. I want them to be attractive, dammit!
There, I said it. I'm shallow. Looks matter to me.
I'm so ashamed...
...but I am pretty happy that I didn't have to pay extra for black.

oooh baby - I want a new washer and dryer and that bad boy is fine, lol. Good on you - aesthetics are hugely important in the purchse of major items. Why can't something be functional and beautiful _ I know I am bwahahaha!!

It definitely looks the part (unlike my highly unattractive beige and brown washer - yuck!). But wouldn't top loading have had felting benefits?

Never underestimate the power of a good looking appliance. The only complaint I have about my front loader is that you can't felt that well with it.

Can't fault your logic in choosing the appliances-- I would have done the same! Pls add my voice to the chorus of "how do you felt with a front loader", as that's what I've got. Boring old white, but hidden in the basement!

haha.. nice! we have a front loader too.. love them!
Crazy how it's easier to buy a place than to buy stuff for inside it.. we've been searching for a rug for the past 2 months vs. the two days it took to decide on this condo. We are still haggling over which colors/types of Flor to get. Ugh. Who knew I hated carpet?

Ah yes, felting is a poential problem, and was a consideration. However, I only felt a couple of times a year, so I couldn't make that the deal-breaker.
I'm just going to have to find a way to make my gentle new washer a bit tougher. Maybe I'll get some sacrificial sneakers.

The front loaders are the absolute best, at least to wash clothes with (not sure about the felting bit!), as we just got ours not long ago and I haven't felted anything since then. You will not be disappointed with this purchase!
