she likes purple

She gets purple.

Reid full

The color is actually more true in the detail shot taken the next day when the sun was shining.

Reid detail

I didn't have an appropriate button on hand, and I was too lazy to go look for one; so I made a crocheted nubbin that I think will function as a button.

Pattern: Reid from Knitty Spring 2006
Yarn: [MC] Patons Grace; color: #60321 Lilac; [CC] Debbie Bliss Cotton DK; color: #31

makin' waves

Lorette asked what the cable-y wave stitch is.

It's two, two-stitch cables that switch direction every other row and are out of phase with one another.

The entire pattern repeat:

Wave_chart

working in the round,
row 1: k2, p2, k2, p2, c2b, p2, c2f, p2
rows 2 and 4: k2, p2 around
row 3: k2, p2, k2, p2, c2f, p2, c2b, p2

c2b (cross second stitch over the first and knit both stitches)
c2f (cross first stitch over the second and knit both stitches)

[Chart made with VisiKnit].

waves on the water

Water2

Remember the beautiful blue Woolarina sock yarn I showed a while back?

Water3

I finally finished knitting a pair of socks from it.

Water1

I used the 2x2 sock pattern I posted throughout March. [I've now added the archived pages for the pattern as a link under the 'extras' heading].

To switch things up a bit this time, I added a some waves. For another variation on this pattern, you can see the socks I knit for my friend, Christy, in June 2005.

Open the pod bay doors, HAL.

A while back I mentioned that I was contemplating the purchase of an iPod nano. Well, I bought one right before my trip to Arizona in March and I've been very happy with it.

There's been only one glitch. I previously said that I don't approve of naming electronics; I find anthropomorphizing them a bit twee. Nevertheless, when faced with the option, I choose to give my new toy a personalized label: HAL 9000. I thought I was being clever; and I figured if it ever started to play 'Bicycle Built for Two', the battery was getting ready to die.

Darn it, if once I named the danged thing, it didn't develop a personality. And, he's a pain in the ass too.

For one thing, he doesn't like my taste in music. It's not as though he refuses to play it or anything, but he does snicker every time I download new music.

Regardless of his disapproval, I've compiled a couple of playlists. I've put one of them on the iTunes store as an iMix. This is my walking mix. I will concede that I don't have the most refined taste in music and that I like a lot of crap; however, I find that these tunes get me out the door and keep me moving. [I also have a sad song mix, but I don't recommend listening to it unless you are under a doctor's supervision, so I'm not going to unleash that one on public].

Anyway, I finally convinced him to pose for some pictures.

Hal_happy

Here he is out on the deck, smiling for the camera. Doesn't he look happy? He's in the little neoprene protective suit I make him wear at all times. It's for his own good, but he says it chafes; so sometimes when I'm not looking, he wriggles out of it and runs around naked.

Hal_suprised

See, I turn my back for a minute and look what happens. He's surprised because he thought I'd put away the camera. Ha, caught ya, ya little sucker.

Hal_angry

After that embarrassing episode, he put his suit back on and refused to climb out of the plant until I put the camera away.

So, the lesson here: don't name inanimate objects.
