I am in denial

I won't be going to MS&W this year. To console myself, I think I'm going to have to finally visit some Portland yarn shops that weekend. That won't make up for missing all my MD knitting buds though.

big head bear

I am so cute

My friend Christy was visiting this weekend and a requisite stop was Uwajimaya Plaza where the Kinokuniya Japanese bookstore is located. Although I could have walked out with an armful of crafting books, I limited myself to only one. However, I could show no restraint when it came to starting a new project out of that book; the little guy above is based on the first pattern.

Even though I have no clue when it comes to reading Japanese, I was able to follow the directions pretty easily based on the symbols, photos, and diagrams. I even managed to spot a mistake in the pattern.

I didn't follow the directions when it came to the face though. I don't keep a supply of creepy plastic eyes on hand, so I improvised with some bits of yarn.

I suspect that more little friends from this book will appear from time to time.

bear bits

While I can't tell you the title, I was able to find online listings at Kinokuniya BookWeb and amazon.co.jp.

woolarina

Woolarina2

Pretty, isn't it? It's soft too.

For Christmas, my niece requested a pair of hand-knit socks and selected my coveted orange Woolarina yarn. I was sad to see it go, but I vowed to replace it.

And I did, and then some.

I've been monitoring Woolarina since and pounced went I saw both of these yarns.

I bought the blue yarn first and have the second sock on the needles already. [The first sock got to sit by the pool].

And, as much as I love the orangy-pinky goodness of the other skein, I've promised myself to finish the blue socks first. So, in the meantime, I gaze with loving expectation at that skein.

a good cause

This July, a friend from graduate school will be doing the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer for the second year in a row. If you would like to contribute toward her fundraising goal, visit her personal page and make a donation.

blogging in my head

Lately, I seem to be perfectly happy to compose posts in my head to amuse only myself. When the time comes to finally type them out, however, I stall. I don't feel compelled to share my mundane details and "witty" observations.

I don't think the blog has run it's course, and I not going to make any dramatic declaration of departure. [ugh] I think I'm just going to keep bumping along and see where things go.

I'm working on a couple of things right now and I have some photos to pull off the camera. Who knows, there could be a flurry of activity here soon.
