big head bear

My friend Christy was visiting this weekend and a requisite stop was Uwajimaya Plaza where the Kinokuniya Japanese bookstore is located. Although I could have walked out with an armful of crafting books, I limited myself to only one. However, I could show no restraint when it came to starting a new project out of that book; the little guy above is based on the first pattern.
Even though I have no clue when it comes to reading Japanese, I was able to follow the directions pretty easily based on the symbols, photos, and diagrams. I even managed to spot a mistake in the pattern.
I didn't follow the directions when it came to the face though. I don't keep a supply of creepy plastic eyes on hand, so I improvised with some bits of yarn.
I suspect that more little friends from this book will appear from time to time.

While I can't tell you the title, I was able to find online listings at Kinokuniya BookWeb and amazon.co.jp.

SO cute! I'm glad you decided to make the eyes yourself. (And no choking hazards!)
