untitled post #11
Remember when I said I was going to lose weight?
Yeah, well that isn't going so well.
In fact, I just bought a cookie.
Why? Because right now that cookie is my only friend.
...
Whoops, I just ate my only friend.

contrast

This was my poolside view on Tuesday. I should have enjoyed this conference more, but I was anxious to get back home.

This was the view from my apartment window on Thursday. The snow is long-gone now and we are back to rain.
A few more words about the cranky yarn shop:
Although I don't understand this shop owner's bad opinion of bamboo knitting needles, I do understand her probable exasperation with tourists. I'm sure she has a steady stream of one-time customers coming in and asking stupid things; she doesn't have much patience left.
Yes, I could have saved myself a lot of trouble by starting out asking specifically for what I wanted. My mistake; but really, no bamboo needles!?
I have a ton of US1 bamboo double points around here. She's right, they do eventually break; especially if you are like me and knit with the 'grip of death'. That's why I buy another backup set whenever I can.
Oh well, I guess this gives me a reason to finally start visiting Portland's many yarn shops. I know at least one of them has what I'm looking for.

A KNITTING TALE: a farse
[Setting: Scottsdale, Arizona, a small yarn shop]
[Dramatis Personae:
a Knitter, in search of needles for the knitting of socks
a Yarn Shop Owner, with definite ideas about needles for the knitting of socks]
Knitter: Hello, do you sell any needles for the knitting of socks?
Yarn Shop Owner [smiles broadly]: Yes, we sell these birch double-pointed needles for the knitting of socks. Do you desire to purchase a set?
K: Thank you, but I am sorry that I cannot use that type of needle for the knitting of socks because I find they break too easily.
YSO [smile fadies slightly]: Very well then, what you require are these metal double-pointed needles.
K: Thank you again, but I find that I cannot use that type of needle for the knitting of socks because they cause pain in my hands. Do you sell any bamboo needles for the knitting of socks?
YSO [scowls]: No we do not sell bamboo needles for the knitting of socks; they break too easily and must be replaced.
K [stares blankly at YSO]
YSO [turns and walks away without further comment]
THE END.
