I resolve
My resolution for the new year is to be more selfish. No, really, in order to make the world a better place in 2005, I am going to take better care of me. I'm going to get regular exercise, get plenty of sleep, eat healthfully, pick up my messes, and generally pamper myself. Woe be to anyone (including me) who tries to stop me. The paradox is: the more you nurture (not punish or flog) yourself, the easier it is to nurture others. No blaming, no guilting, no punishment.
Also, no mercy this year for any one who tries to guilt me into being their own personal version of a better person. I am a self-aware, moral adult. I am generally regarded as a polite and responsible individual. Therefore, dearheart, take your fervent and rigid beliefs about the 'true' standards of acceptable behavior and shove them up your ass.

Winter Rain
So, this was meant to be Decreasember. I intended to finish up as many 'all-buts' as I could.
When it came to picking the first to be finished, I could have chosen the longest undone, the closest to finishing, the easiest, or the potentially most useful as the criterion.
Instead, I chose what I would most like to wear on Christmas eve. Also, after a month of stranded knitting on the gloves, I still hadn't gotten it out of my blood; so I chose to work on Rain Forest.
All that remained was the neckband and the arms. The arms start at the shoulder and get smaller as you go. How hard could that be?
When I began, it was not unreasonable for me to think that I could finish in time. However, I was busy, and restless, and sick; and so, I've only made slow progress. It's not done and I won't be taking it on my trip. It will have to wait until I return. [As you read this I've already been in Wisconsin a couple of days].
Why did I ever stop working on it last year? I think at the time it was for lack of a particular knitting needle. Foolish. I've tried it on in it's unfinished state and I can already tell that it's going to be beautiful. The body width and the arm length are perfect and the colors are flattering.
Lots of incentive to finish it up when I get back.

It's hard to believe...
...that this nonsense has been going on for two years already.

Happiness
Who says money can't buy happiness?
I saw this CD by The Weepies recommended on Superhero Journal. I listened to the samples on their website and at Folk Web and knew it would be my newest favorite. The CD is full of folky little gems, Simon & Garfunkel-esque harmonies, and the only sentimental ballad about dating an exotic dancer that you are ever likely to hear. It's available from CD Baby and FolkWeb
Try and steal this
Can't steal happiness

It's a bind
If you never let your dreams out no one can steal them, but you can never live them.

I'm melting
No more blogging until further notice; I'm having a meltdown.
Move along. Nothing to see here.

This is not a joke
Coming this Sunday on TNT, from the producer of Independence Day, Noah Wyle starring in THE LIBRARIAN: QUEST FOR THE SPEAR. Also starring Kyle MacLachlan, Jane Curtin, Olympia Dukakis, and Bob Newhart.
BWAH!! I'm going to have to watch to see if this is as ridiculous as it sounds.
Coming soon: THE ACCOUNTANT: SEARCH FOR THE PICKFORK, starring Norm MacDonald; THE FISH MONGER: PURSUIT OF THE HEDGE TRIMMERS, starring David Caruso; and, THE PARTY PLANNER: WHERE ARE MY CAR KEYS?, starring Heather Locklear.
